Dinner at the Oriental Club

Yesterday evening Chris and I attended a fabulous Aussie-themed dinner at the Oriental Club in London. Three superstar wines from the Schild Estate were presented by Mr Rob Allen: a Riesling, a Grenache/Mourvedre/Syrah blend, and a Shiraz. Rob talked to us about the impressive production methods used by the Schild Estate out in the Barossa Valley.

We started with the Riesling, possibly one of the best dry expressions of this typology we have ever tasted before. Our main course, the beef bavette, was brilliantly balanced by the good acidity and lively tannins of the unoaked Grenache/Mourvedre/Syrah blend. We then finished with a superb Shiraz, whose lingering fruity structure and its velvety tannins enhanced the taste of a delicious cheese selection.

A memorable dinner!
